Discover how strong the plastic Polymer is.
MY SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION- HOW STRONG IS THE ZIP LOCK BAG: BY DONNACHA COLLINS 6TH CLASS
We learned about a chemical compound called polymer. Polymers are made
up of long chains of molecules that are flexible. Plastic is a type of polymer.
Plastics are bendy and stretchy because of their flexible- molecules chains.
Equipment: Zip lock bag, water and sharpened pencils.
My Predictions: I think the water will burst out of the bag.
Method: First, fill the zip lock bag ¾ full of water. Seal the bag.
Then, stick the pencils through the bag and find out what happens.
Results: We put through 32 pencils and it was successful and I was
surprised it didn’t explode.
What I Have Learnt: I learnt that plastic is strong and I learnt the
more the pencils the weaker the plastic gets.
We enjoyed doing the experiment.
