STEM SHOWCASE

We held a show case of their recycled materials models project. It was an excellent opportunity for the children to explain their models and how they made them. They were also presented with prizes for their work. Actor Jermery Irons heard about the model of Kilcoe Castle and invited Jacob to the castle with his model to tell him more about it.
Fourth class presented their STEPS Young Engineers project to JB Barry Engineering a firm who are based in Co Limerick through a zoom call. It shows how the children are able to explain their work successfully through a video call if an inperson visit it not possible.
Any time we have carried out science experiments throughout the year the senior room will show their work to the junior room and vice versa. This creates great excitement as they love to show what they have learnt to each other.
The older children would visit the younger classroom to see their work on bridges and allow them to explain how they made them and what they learnt.
When we made the LEGO we do models each of the groups would show the other groups how their model worked.
We held a whole school display in the school hall of all our KNEX projects.
All our science work is also displayed on our school facebook page and on our school website www.kilcoens.ie. This gives parents and the wider community and opportunity to see and engage with the work the children are doing.
We were delighted with the increased opportunities this year to regularly allow the children to display and explain and teach their science learning to each other. We created a science notice board in the entrance hall on which they children could display their work and this allowed for increased discussion among the children in the mornings on their way into school and could also be viewed by any visitors coming to the school.
