STEM SHOWCASE

Image
We held a show case of their recycled materials models project. It was an excellent opportunity for the children to explain their models and how they made them. They were also presented with prizes for their work. Actor Jermery Irons heard about the model of Kilcoe Castle and invited Jacob to the castle with his model to tell him more about it.  Fourth class presented their STEPS Young Engineers project to JB Barry Engineering a firm who are based in Co Limerick through a zoom call. It shows how the children are able to explain their work successfully through a video call if an inperson visit it not possible.  Any time we have carried out science experiments throughout the year the senior room will show their work to the junior room and vice versa. This creates great excitement as they love to show what they have learnt to each other.  The older children would visit the younger classroom to see their work on bridges and allow them to explain how they made them and what th...

Minecraft education

Image
Minecraft education edition was a part of Microsoft dream space. It was a series of events like architecture first we had to build our dream house. Second we had to build a range rover because it was a challenge for space week. The third challenge was growing crops or farms and brining in live stock. It involves critical thinking systems thinking collaboration and communication. After a long time of joining servers and blowing up stuff  we started to build houses and farms. After a while we stopped and tried to build a mars rover we didn't get around to doing it. After all we enjoyed it ever so much and hope to do it again soon.

Taking fingerprints. -Detective work

Image
We learned how to be a detective.  We rubbed  the finger over the  pencil  mark, this will make a dark mark on the finger.  Stick the sticky side of the sticky tape on the  fingerprint  and gently pull the tape away.  Stick the tape onto a white piece of paper. Repeat the process  using  a few different fingers, often a thumb will have a more detailed print, however, this really varies between people. Our findings were everyones fingerprint is unique.

Steps Young engineers

Image
Steps Young Engineers. (Stem)   We designed a two-story shelter downstairs made from Lego. there is a waiting area for buses. Upstairs we have designed a shelter for homeless people. We installed a free vending machine sanitizing area re-useable bed and free Wi-Fi. We wanted our design to be sustainable with a garden on our roof and solar panels. We presented our project to JB Barry Engineering a firm who are based in Co Limerick. My favourite part was working as team building the model  and having fun while building it. by James Challacombe-Tickner 4 th class.     STEPS ENGINEERING  We had to think carefully  about our  design to make it functional and practical. we  really enjoyed working together as a team and listening to each other ideas. Sam Challacombe Tickner- 4th class.   Presenting our Project to JB Barry Engineering Consultants. Our "Shack shelter" to help the homeless and elderly people in our local town.
